Early this morning I was reading about the coronavirus at https://moneymaven.io/ and came across a statement about Asians having certain genetic receptors in higher amounts than other people of other nationalities. This virus and the SARS virus-like to attach to these and that by having a higher number you have a greater chance of being impacted by the virus. If this is true then nature really decided to hit China with a very unfair genetic twist of fate or someone in a lab altered this for reasons unknown at this time. I’m going to search for this article and post the link here once I find it.

Summary:

  • Taiwan reports 1st coronavirus death
  • There are now at least 68,500 cases worldwide, and at least 1,665 deaths from the Covid-19 virus
  • Japan found 70 more cases aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship

Today China formally rolls out marshal law and there are already videos getting out of China showing people in long arrest lines. “Friday marked the beginning of ‘war time’ conditions in Wuhan, accompanied by a total ban on leaving one’s dwelling for any reason other than a government-authorized service or to receive treatment.” This is a major change and it appears the military is formally taking over the situation. Earlier today China warned that there had been a large increase in cases and to expect a surge in future numbers. I don’t know what that means but I expect we will find out over the next 7-14 days. Now Japan has a new case, and its significance because the person appears to have contracted the virus in Hawaii through second-hand vector transmission. I’m sure the CDC will be tracking this down and hopefully more information to come. We also know that the virus is in Africa and beginning to be found. This is concerning since once it gets into populated remote villages it can go unnoticed until severe.

The one thing I could not understand is why China did these fog sprayers outside and inside offices with workers inside. Then I remembered that back during the SARS situation when I would fly into China that is what happened inside the airplane and now they appear to be fumigated the country. So it does appear to the Chinese government that this virus has the capability to be airborne or why would they even bother.

So let me get this straight; we in the USA have nothing to worry about because it is so bad in China that they spray fog sprayers inside of a building like a human bug bomb is going off. The US government has 1000 people on self-quarantine in LA county alone and we hear crickets. The military was officially notified on Feb 1st to prepare for a possible pandemic but we still have planes flying in from China. So what are we missing?

The situation with this virus is now changing every few hours. I cannot keep p the ongoing information flow. I will do my best but please keep in mind that these summaries, videos, tweets, and other information now become old right after I publish. ZeroHedge is the main place of information, but CNBC is trying to publish more updates later as well. With what is now expected at a minimum an import disturbance. We recommend getting medication early, and anything else necessary if this disruption continues. Military commands are planning as they always do for any threat to the United States but military personnel should ensure their families are prepared in case of activation for domestic duties.

Update (1820ET): Another incident involving a cruise ship with possibly infected passengers is unfolding – this time in Sydney. What would be the fifth cruise ship to face some level or quarantine (or some other form of trouble) – since the outbreak went global two weeks ago is currently being held under a quarantine order in Sydney Harbor.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes within world governments and it appears there is a certain sense of seriousness happening within the US government and members of congress do seem to be aware of the situation.

People are starting to ask the right questions and China is having a harder time keeping the real number out of the tally. If this continues to expect a number of statistical changes (bombs) dropped on the world in order to save face in China. Also, expect world finance to react to these changes. Here is a video report from ABC Los Angeles where 1,000 have been asked to self-quarantine. Other possible incidents are rumored to have happened in Idaho. As far as I know, all of these people have a connection to China or have Chinese ethnicity.

What a surprise everyone admits China is lying about the number of cases and deaths. So in response to the pressure, they change how they count cases and adds several thousand in one day to their normal tally.

Update (2000ET): Prepare for the Phase 1 Trade deal to collapse due to “force majeure”: according to White House National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien, China’s agricultural purchases from the first phase of a trade deal may not be as large as the Trump administration had hoped due to the coronavirus.

So let’s recap the absurdity here today. Asian countries are refusing to allow cruise to doc or embark. These same nations have not reported any major epidemic; so what is really dring them? CDC lets someone leave San Diego hospital due to a test mix up. Since this is highly contagious this individual most like infected others. So I guess we believe they couldn’t keep track of one person and are that incompetent. It’s like living in the Twilight Zone episode of stupidity.

  • President Xi addresses party officials at the outbreak control center

When and if this blows over there will be lasting consequences. Internally in China, and externally within the international economic system. Some countries will benefit while others will be hit very hard by the loss of China’s GDP. You cannot expect there to not be a coming China contagion economically when most of China’s manufacturing is still shut down, and yes we still fill Walmarts with China products.

Update (1400ET): Yet more comments from President Xi’s excursion out into the neighborhoods of Beijing, where the coronavirus is menacing the city’s population. During his outing, Xi warned China was prepared for a long and “grim” battle with the virus – and that it would ultimately prevail, no matter what.

1/9/2020

Today there were more comments coming out of the WHO and they did not provide any confidence. We know the virus has mutated, but into what? What is the official contamination number 1-3.5 or what? The public is being kept in the dar here in the USA and apart of me understands but then I worry people will not have the opportunity to be ready. Below is the latest summary and I will begin talking more on the subject if the situation warrants it. People will think about why the big deal if only 900 people have died, and that my friends are very good questions. Do you really think the whole country of China would shut down and the world closes it off from everyone for 900 people? Why would over 400 million Chinese be in quarantine for just 900 people? I don’t know the answers but I’m looking and so should you. I am being shut down on social media for talking about this and I guess I don’t tow a close enough line. From deleted content to shadow banning anyone to is talking about this is starting to be shut down and why if we are only bringing together already readily available public information.

Please help us to spread the word by sharing to all social media in the world other than just USA Facebook and twitter. People do have a right to hear about news around the world.

I am not in Wuhan China but I’m beginning to get concerned for the people od Wuhan and not from the position of the virus. The government of China appears to be taking more and more dramatic steps in curbing this outbreak, and they are very concerned that a WHO declaration of a pandemic may be imminent. With China running out of time, and with the Chinese economy being hit very hard in Q1 2020 there could be a massive change underway. One thing I can always guarantee is their government will always protect it’s self no matter what the cost, and we may be in the beginning of seeing this happen before our eyes in China. Whatever the real number of cases is or how many people have died the government there seems to be willing to sacrifice a good deal of very nice people in order to stem the tide of this virus. We are supposed to be a travel blog here at ExploreTraveler but it’s hard to travel when the world has shut down flights, and re-routed flights around the world.

Here is the latest summary from ZeroHedge and I would encourage everyone to read the full article there in detail.

So what is the economic impact just to China alone?

Russia cancels visa-free travel

Russia suspends Chinese work visas

USA, Russia, and others suspend flights into China

Countries around the world are rushing to remove their citizens from China

Apple shuts stores

Macdonalds close fast food restaurants

All factories are shut down due to extended holiday

I’m missing much more but I think my point is clear about the worldwide economic impact. We buy a lot of stuff from China and that will be felt. Walmart’s everyday low prices might not be so low soon.

Unsure what this will do here in the USA but I’m hoping we adapt to this virus quickly. But one must wonder if it’s time for us to prepare to shelter in place in case this spreads and people start getting sick, and cannot go to work.

As of this evening, ZeroHedge.com is reporting the following.

2/1/2020 1600 PM CST

Social media giant Facebook has now begun to censor news about this virus and the spread of it. Twitter has disabled the ZeroHedge account and others may self-censor but for what reason?

Latest from ZeroHedge.com

City health officials have been bracing for a case given NYC’s large population of Chinese immigrants.

“An individual with a travel history to China felt unwell and sought help from a medical provider who promptly contacted the Health Department,” said the health commissioner, Dr. Oxiris Barbot.

NYC has already struggled with outbreaks recently, including an outbreak of measles in the ultra-orthodox Jewish community.

So with millions of Chinese allowed to leave Wuhan weeks ago when it was obvious to everyone this was spreading like wildfire one must begin to wonder why? Why did the United States allow this and why was China sending medical time bombs around the world. Is it possible that they are scared and want to make sure other countries get infected to keep a balance of power? I will do my best to get more video updates, tweets, and more as this goes on.

It’d early morning here but I wanted to update everyone on what I found in a UK newspaper last night. I will search for the source later today after I sleep. It is being reported that the governments of two different provinces are asking people to kill their pets ASAP due to the risk of passing the virus on to cats and dogs. As far as I know, there is no evidence of this happening and I have to assume the government in China knows something or has found something new. I will post more information on this later.

Today I have to begin to say that there is a coordinated attempt to downplay any discussion about this virus and to keep the USA solely focus on politics. It has never been our attention to cause anyone panic but to just bring information from various resources so people who follow us can make better decisions on travel. We cannot in good cognizance talk about Asia travel in our blog if we don’t keep people updated on the possibility of a virus that could happen their plans. The website listed below offers some really good stories about the situation around the world and we will add some videos for other updates globally.

As of tonight, ZeroHedge.com is reporting significant changes, updates, and findings into the Wuhan laboratory. We recommend everyone going over there and reading up in detail what they have found. The mainstream media is staying mostly silent with very little serious reporting on this outbreak, and the governments of the world have been very careful in their dialogues in regards to the Chinese containment. As the next few days move forward expect governments around the world to begin shutting down incoming air traffic from China totally. The WHO will need to take a stand at some point but the United States appears to be acting on their own information. CNBC has been one of the few major media organizations reporting this but ZeroHedge has really taken the lead more than any other media.

White House has held multiple meetings about the coronavirus led by Deputy National Security Advisor Matt Pottinger.

The consensus: The problem is getting worse, though the true extent is unclear.

China’s top health officials shared some grim statistics essentially confirming that the novel coronavirus believed to have emerged from a shady food market in Wuhan is on track to confirm some of the more dire projections shared by epidemiologists.

Panic has swept across the region as border closures appear to be the overarching theme of Tuesday’s sessions. Even North Korea, which relies on China for 90% of its foreign trade, has closed the border with its patron.

CDC Calls CoV “Serious Emerging Public Health Threat”, Confirms 5th US Case

More information is needed but the latest summary from ZeroHedge does not look good. Financial markets will react tomorrow, and we may see the USA government money begin to flow into preparation. There are pandemic preparation plans in place for all government agencies both local, state and federal. Also, many larger companies have already began activated key personnel who run their own pandemic planning. The next five days will determine how things go around the world and once the WHO declares an international emergency we may see other plans activate around the world.

1/24/2019 commentary

If’s safe to say that with millions of people under qarunteen in China and with what appears to be a 14 day period of contamination that others will be noticed soon. Thailand for example must be under reporting along with other countries in Asia. Last night I saw a massive con struction project undeway in Wuhan and if we start seeing smoke we know what is really going on there. This is mutating quickly so we should know in two weeks if that works in out favor. I expect global economies to be hit, and I saw the first sign in the USA today. Not sure when the WHO will make a decision that is obvious but it will happen within days. I expect that once the numbers exceed the 2003 SARS outbreak they will have to take politics out. I am going to be following this closely tonight and will add more information over the next few days. Who builds a hospital for 1000 people in less thean two weeks and still expects us to believe this is contained. I have lost communication with my contacts in China now but am still recieving info from Taiwan and I will continue to post my insight here. Within the USA the media likes to go on a blackout as of Friday night, but I will look for more information out of Wuhan on twitter, youtube or wherever to keep the information coming.

This is getting a little crazy and I really hope they are building a hospital to help people.

Reminding me of 12 monkeys or Cpt Tripps.

The City center of Lisbon has a mixture of old and new, and you will find very old architecture built within the city. Lisbon’s long history can be told in its architecture. The city dates back to the time of the Romans and the Moors. It has been a Christian Monarchy, a busy republic, and a complete dictatorship. In our time, it is the fascinating capital city of Portugal, where history is living and mingles with the present.

The monument was completed in 1931 and stands 98 feet tall. The monument shows the faith of the city, as the arms embrace and protect the harbor and the peoples of this great city. These arms have a span of 92 feet across and further embrace the faithful of the whole city. If you have time you can take an elevator and see the whole city of Lisbon on top. It’s a wonderful view, and well worth the time it takes to get there.

Taal Volcano: Smallest Active Volcano Binintiang Malaki

Taal Volcano is the smallest volcano in the world. This volcano is also considered the deadliest of Philippine active volcanoes. Almost 6,ooo people have lost their lives due to her violent eruptions and pyroclastic flows. It has gone off 33 times, the last time in 1977! This makes it the second active volcano in the Philippines. It is one of the most beautiful active volcanoes anywhere in the world. Situated on Luzon Island in the Philippines, this stately volcano sits in the middle of Taal Lake. What makes it even more unique is that Taal Volcano also has its own lake. Nestled in the middle of Taal Volcano is Crater Lake. This volcano is one of the world’s unique tourist locations.

Taal Volcano can be reached by boat from Talisay. Those wanting to go up to the crater can then proceed by horseback or on foot. It takes about 20 minutes by horseback to reach Crater Lake. Can you imagine the thrill of the ride up to the crater? Those with a little extra energy can choose to take the hike up the path. It takes about 1 hour to hike up to the crater. The climb can be rather steep for less energetic climbers. Those who are not seasoned climbers will be happier on horseback. The scenery is breathtaking! The ride is exhilarating! The experience is one you will never forget!

Luzon Island Philippines
Lake Taal and within the lake is the active Taal Volcano on Luzon island in the Philippines

Crater Lake is a sulfuric lake that may have medical properties. Many people have soaked in it’s healing waters, or even gone swimming. The bravest of the brave have even dived in Crater Lake. Those scuba divers have certainly had a unique experience. For those who are willing to pay the price and take the risk, there are rental houses to be had in Batangas City. Many choose to spend a few days soaking in the natural beauty of the area. The beauty of the area is amazing. Crater Lake is also home to the world’s only freshwater sardine and freshwater sea snake. There is a very diverse amount of plant life on Volcano Island. Indeed, any trip to Taal Volcano will be memorial. So what are you waiting for? Whether you want to spend one day or three, you will want to visit Taal Volcano. Grab your passport and pack your bag and we will see you in Talisay, for the adventure of a lifetime.

Malaki Volcanic Crater In Luzon

What is Binintiang Malaki or Mt. Binintiang Malaki?

Malaki Volcanic Crater, in Luzon, Philippines, is magnificent! Malaki  Crater is the most distinctive crater on Volcano Island. Malaki is also called the “Fake” Taal Volcano. Many are confused and think that it is actually Taal Volcano. Malaki is not Taal Volcano! She is a very beautiful dormant volcano that sits next to Taal Volcano. Malaki is beautiful! She is very photogenic. However, she is a dormant volcano. Malaki does not have a crater lake inside her crater. She is often used for postcards! Malaki is absolutely beautiful!

Many visitors and foreigners come each year to see Taal Volcano. They look out across Taal Lake and see beautiful Malaki. They never see Taal Volcano at all. Malaki is so photogenic and magnificent, that they only assume that she is Taal, herself. This is not Taal, but beautiful Binintiang Malaki.

Binintiang Malaki is only one of the 47 cones and craters of Taal Volcano. She is by far the most photographed, and certainly the most painted. She is the most amazing crater on Volcano Island. If you are standing on Talgaytay Ridge, Taal Volcano is the rather flat volcano behind Binintiang Malaki. In the picture, you can see the flat area behind Malaki, which is Taal Volcano. In the background is beautiful Mount Maculot!

Volcano Island has the distinction of having the world’s lowest volcano!  How amazing! It is also known for having the world’s deadliest volcanoes. But I also think it is fair to say, that Volcano Island has some of the most magnificent volcano craters in the Philippines.

There are some awesome hikes to be had on Volcano Island. You can also rent horses to bring you to the top. As you climb up to the crater, you will have some of the most fantastic views of Binintiang Malaki. At times the trail narrows and you share it with the many horses. In times like these, the hikers find themselves in very tight spaces with the many horses caring tourists to the top.  Whichever way you choose, the trail going up is beautiful and you will have many photo opts of Binintiang Malaki, Taal Volcano, and of course beautiful Mount Maculot!

Another major activity on Volcano Island is bird watching. There are many resident birds that call Volcano Island home. In addition, it is a stopover for many migratory birds. There are several guided tours just for birdwatchers. If you enjoy bird-watching, you will enjoy Volcano Island.

Volcano Island is restricted and no permanent dwellings are allowed. However, many of the poor have come to the island to live. They make their living by fishing on the lake and farming the rich volcanic soils. The people you will meet are known for their extreme friendliness. The children are very happy and love to pose for pictures.

Besides hiking or horseback riding to the crater of Taal Volcano, you can also choose to go swimming in the crater. It does have a week sulfur content, so it is not advised to stay for too long. However, many feel that the crater has water that is healing to the skin. Certainly, the water is full of many different minerals. Many have said that their rough skin is baby smooth when they come out.

One of the best ways to see Volcano Island is by boat. Whether you rent a motorboat, take a cruise on Taal Lake, or choose to kayak your way around the island, there is much to do at Volcano Island. Since Taal Volcano has mainly been dormant since 1977, all these activities are allowed on the Island and are considered safe.

There is also fishing on the lake and camping is allowed in several places. There are several nice campgrounds on the Island for your enjoyment.  Volcano Island is an awesome place to spend the weekend. There is even a modern resort on the Island.

Whatever you decide to do, Volcano Island is a wonderful place to visit. So relax and enjoy the island. Take a swim in the healing waters! Discover the Island by boat! Hike to the top of Taal Volcano. Take a picture of Binintiang Malaki, However you choose to explore the island, there is an adventure on Volcano Island.

Horse trekking
Horse Trekking to the top of the active Taal Volcano in the Philippines

Horse Trekking Taal Volcano Philippines

Horse Trekking Taal Volcano is easy. It is a first-class adventure. No experience is necessary. Taal Volcano is the South of Manila in the center of Taal Lake. It is the smallest active volcano in The Philippines. It has claimed close to 6,000 lives in recent times and still quite active. It is the charm of this little volcano, with its own caldera in the middle that draws thousands to visit. This is a good trail and many hikes up the slope. For those who don’t want to hike in the hot humid Filipino, weather…..there is horse trekking. What a fun idea!

Taal Volcano has one of the most picturesque and charming views in The Philippines. Even those who have seen it many times, can not help but admire the view. It is always changing! It is one of a kind. It is awesome in the midst of the deep blue Lake Taal.

Why would you want to take the risk to climb an active volcano? There is something so special about this small volcano that causes many to climb to the ridge. At the ridge, you can see Crater Lake. It is perhaps one of the most charming things you will ever do. Horse Trekking makes it even easier. It is truly a first-class adventure, Philippine style.

Once you reach Volcano Island, you will need to register for the hike. The cost of hiking is about 50 pesos. For those who want to try horse trekking, the cost is 500-600 pesos. Those who choose to hike, say they get a better view of the island as they ascend the volcano. However, it is worth noting that slow-moving horses give plenty of time to admire the beauty of the area as you pass. Horse trekking is amazing! You can enjoy the view! Take pictures and admire this small very active volcano.

One of the amazing things you will see at the beginning of the trip is the small houses and farms.  It is forbidden to reside on the island, as it is a permanent danger zone. Many have ignored these warnings and risk their lives daily to farm and fish this rich area. The rich volcanic soil makes the growth of most anything profitable.

It is recommended that you wear a face mask on the accent, as the strong sulfur fumes can be problematic for many. You will see many vents with steam and sulfur coming out into the air. There is no doubt that this is an active volcano. She is ready to blow at a moment’s notice. Until then, her charm is like a magnet for many. It is wise to bring a change of clothes, water, and snacks for the trip. There is a vendor at the top of the climb for those who prefer not to pack in their own supplies and then pack out the trash.

As you plan your next Philippine vacation, make sure to allow a day at Volcano Island. Experience the amazing adventure of horse trekking. Horse trekking is fun for all ages. What are you waiting for? Join the adventure today!

Personal Security & Adventure Travel

Travel with large backpack

Personal Security & Adventure Travel  – In light of the recent attacks in Paris and the lock-down of Brussels for an imminent terror threat one should consider their personal security situation. Since traveling around the world to remote areas our more crowded cities requires some different approaches we will concentrate on situation based awareness security. Below are some tips to consider while planning and executing your trip. We have traveled to the Far East. The Middle East and yes sometimes that included areas where terrorism has existed or does exist. Some places in Mexico where drug cartels operate without any opposition from the federal government can also be just as dangerous.

Personal Security & Adventure Travel

AIR TRAVEL

Personal Security & Adventure Travel should be front and center when booking your plane tickets please consider these tips and use them as a guide. Location, airline and the people who use the airline can make you a target so always assume you are being watched. Remember we are not talking about living in fear but to have situational awareness, and to ensure you have the survivor skills in case something goes wrong.

FLUGREISEN

Personal Security & Adventure Travel

Planning the Trip

• To the degree possible, avoid carriers that are both high-risk and lax in
their security.

• Choose flights with the fewest number of intermediate stops. Intermediate
stops provide terrorists not inclined toward suicide with opportunities to
plant explosives and then deplane.

• Select your seat carefully. A seat next to an over-the-wing emergency exit
is best, but a position near an alternate exit also is acceptable. To put a
little distance between yourself and any confrontation in the aisle, select a
window seat whenever possible.

Reise planen

Packing

The following items are potentially provocative:

• A passport that shows travel to controversial countries such as Israel.
Passports with visa stamps from such countries should be replaced. The U.S.
passports can be turned in at U.S. Department of State passport offices
and new, “clean” passports obtained. Countries that know they add risks to foreigners will now not stamp your passport but make sure to ask them when you arrive.

• ID cards for the military reserve or cards showing membership in a political
party, political action group, veterans’ organization, or any group that can
be considered controversial.

• Business cards or letterhead—your own or those of associates—citing
companies in controversial industries, especially cards indicating titles
such as “Director, Weapons Sales” or “Manager, Special Weapons
Development Group.” If carried at all, they should be relegated to
checked baggage.

• Any other materials linking you to your company, if your company is in
a controversial industry. This would include company literature such as
annual reports, jewelry, polo shirts, luggage tags, or other items bearing

medallions, and gold watches.

• Clothing that sets you apart from the crowd.

• Reading matter that may be offensive (such as racy magazines) or
provocative (this guide, for example).

At the Airport

• Know the scheduled time of departure for your flight and plan your arrival
at the airport so that you have enough time for processing. Take into
consideration baggage check-in and security inspections.

• Spend a minimum of time in the public lobby areas, which carry the
highest risks of bombings and other terrorist incidents. Proceed as soon as
possible to the security checkpoint and pass into the “sterile area” of the
departure gates.

• Avoid people who are receiving special attention from airline employees
or the press, as well as those who appear to be holding unusually
animated conversations. Avoid disturbances of any kind. Move away from
potential trouble, not toward it as many people are inclined to do.

• Be alert to an influx of uniformed security or police officers or to airline
personnel milling about with two-way radios. If airport officials order an
evacuation of the area, take a position in the center of the group with as
many people around you as possible. Do not take the lead or straggle.

• Never ignore “gut” feelings. If something feels amiss, it very well maybe.
Follow your instincts to a safe harbor.

• If a fellow passenger appears to be acting in an unusual manner, report
your suspicions to an airline employee or to the authorities.”

Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem

December 24, 2019 by Exploretraveler.com 1 Comment

Church Of The Nativity
Church Of The Nativity

Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem

The Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem is where you will find the manger where Jesus was born. The natural limestone walls of this ancient cave were decorated during the Constantine period. How beautiful they must have been. During the Byzantine period the walls were covered with a beautiful marble. The entrance to the grotto is placed to the side of the manger out of respect for the place where Jesus was born. This simple, but elegant, Grotto of the Nativity first began to be a Holy Site in the Byzantine period. It was then that an altar was placed in the cave to remember the exact place where baby Jesus was born. It was at this time that The Grotto of the Nativity became a place set aside to remember the birth of the Messiah. It is still a place set aside to remember. What a special place it is!

Under the altar is a beautiful star. The inscription reads in Latin: “Hic de Virgine Maria Iesus Christus natus est. ”  The translation of this inscription is: “In memory of the precise spot of the Nativity.” How amazing it is to see the very spot where the baby Jesus was born. Off toward the right of the altar is the location of the crib or manger where Mary laid the baby Jesus. What a special place! The simplistic beauty of the Grotto of the Nativity is amazing. What a beautiful remembrance of this special time in the history of mankind.

The Grotto of the Nativity is in very good condition and has been used for several purposes. In the front of the manger is a smaller altar where the Latin Mass has always been said. This altar is dedicated to the three kings who came to worship the Christ Child. The Grotto of the Nativity is a place of remembrance.

Over the years there has been some changes made to the manger due to natural wear and tear. The manger is not the exact original one. Alterations were made to the original manager because of the aging of the this holy relic.

The Door of Humility
The Door of Humility

In 1869 there was a fire in The Grotto of the Nativity. To prevent future fires, the marble walls were covered with asbestos. Under the asbestos covering are the original marble walls. On top of the asbestos are paintings done by different artists. The paintings are beautiful but are of limited value.

Star of Bethlehem

The Grotto of the Nativity is an important Holy Site that deserves to be on every itinerary. No Israel adventure or pilgrimage is complete without witnessing the place where Jesus was born. This was an unique and important period of history in the Holy Land. It is one that you will not want to miss. Take time to explore all of the many Holy Sites in the Bethlehem area. Once you have experienced these sites for yourself, nothing will ever be quite the same. You will never look at history in the same way. Bethlehem Village is where history comes alive. Yesterday becomes as today and today is an extension of yesterday. If you have never traveled to the Holy Land, make this the year that you set out on an Israel adventure.

Marine Animals In The Spotlight On The Pacific Ocean Of The USA

November 19, 2019 by John J Gentry Leave a Comment

Californa Elephant Seals Seaside

Massive Northern Elephant Seals At Piedras Blanca San Simeon California

These Massive Northern Elephant Seals live in the warm waters of the California Pacific Ocean and Northern Baja California.Much of their life is spent at sea, only coming in to remote and rocky beaches during times of breeding, and when they give birth. They also come into these areas when they are ready to molt. The majority of their life they live at sea.

There was a time when thousands upon thousands Elephant Seals lived in The Pacific, then in the 1800’s they were slaughtered till less than 100 Seals. All this for their blubber which gave a valuable oil. Both the US and Mexico protect them now and there are as many as 160,000 living Seals in the Pacific again.

These massive animals can be fun to watch, as they are quite comical at times.

“Seals Playing On The Buoy” On The Northern Inside Passage In Petersburg Alaska

These Harbor Seals are at play and having a lot of fun. When fishing, they can dive more than a quarter mile for their dinner. They love Halibut! They are also able to fish for almost an hour under the water, when necessary.

Steller Sea Lions Resting In The Sun On The Rocks Near Sea Lion Caves Near Florence Oregon

These Northern Sea Lions are many times confused with the California Sea Lions. They are much larger than their California Cousins, often grow to 11 feet long and can weigh as much as 2,500 pounds.

When traveling on the West Coast from Alaska to California, keep diligent watch and who knows what you will see. There are many different types of Marine Animals that live in the Pacific. The next time you come, take a leisurely drive up Highway 101 from California to Washington. It follows the beach side most of the time. Have fun and begin building your own collection of Amazing Marine Animals.

The quiet side of Majalengka

People of Majalengka Indonesia West Java
People of Majalengka Indonesia West Java

Editor Note: ExploreTraveler is active and on the ground in Indonesia with Devina Noviyanti our social media influencer and blogger for the region. We will begin with the Majalengka Indonesia area and expand into different guides and articles.

Indonesia is (Mangoshe), meaning lovely people, cultures, traditions, and it has some of the best local food in any area. Majalengka is one of those places that catches one’s curiosity. The people in Majalengka live modestly and live mainly by Sundanese culture.

The City Of Wind

People from outside Majalengka call it the city of wind, because the wind is significant, especially during the rainy season and many people who come here from afar are surprised by it. They are not only surprised by the wind but also the food and the town. We don’t usually eat at a table (we call it lesehan), or with silverware, but we typically eat with just our hands because the Sundanese people believe eating with one’s hands can enjoy the taste of the food we eat.

Internet is a luxury here, especially in rural areas, as we mainly have to rely on cell phone 3G towers to access the Internet Rather than wired connections. However, we can still get a good internet connection if you live in the downtown city area of Majalengka, where there is more infrastructure.

Famous Soy Sauce Or “kecap”

The most iconic things of Majalengka is the famous soy sauce or “kecap” and Gedong gincu Mango or “Mangga gedong gincu”. The Majalengka kecap is famous here because it’s a robust flavor and is legendary in the area. They have produced soy sauce for many years, and they still produce it traditionally, so it makes the kecap or soy sauce has a unique flavor that people enjoyed the taste of worldwide.

Most of the people in Majalengka work as a farmer we have fruits and vegetable garden as our income, but still mango garden is the most people have here. People who have mango companies regularly export the Mango to Jakarta, but also, there’s a big company that ships the Mango to middle eastern countries.

Here in Majalengka, we don’t have a large mall, and we don’t have a theatre, Mcdonalds, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, KFC, etc. However, it would be something cool for us if we have that. Still, if we want them, have to drive to Cirebon, which two hours driving from Majalengka, but don’t worry, we still have local restaurants that you can try here; we also have a lot of street food.

There’s a park that is famously called “alun alun” located in the downtown of Majalengka. You can find many kinds of street food over there, one of people’s favorite street food is “seblak.” It constructed from “kerupuk” (Indonesian crackers), cabbage, noodle chicken finger, and egg with special seasoning and original chili sauce. You don’t have to add chili sauce if you don’t like the spice. Still, people here love spicy, seasoned food, so don’t be surprised if the food here is tasty but a little hot and spicy.

Talking about street food in Majalengka; my favorite food is the “lumpia basah” and I can’t find it anywhere outside the area.  Even when I’m in Jakarta, Lumpia basah made from bean sprouts, jimaca, palm sugar, with simple but special seasoning and chili sauce wrapped with food wrapper(Lumpia). It tasted sweet, salty, and spicy.

In Majalengka you can also find a lot of beautiful natural places to visit like a waterfall, Panyaweuyan terrace, tea garden, Ciremai mountains and “Paraland” and a lot more. One area that famous is Paraland it’s a resort where you can see all over Majalengka. So that’s Majalengka I love it here, and it is my home and the place I grew up in.

Next time you want to explore someplace new away from the tourist areas consider exploring Majalengka Indonesia West Java.

Magical Islands In The Philippines

Magische Inseln In Den Philippinen

Magical islands are everywhere in The Philippines! If  there are 7,107 islands that make up The Philippine archipelago and only 2,000 are inhabited……that is over 5,000 magical islands! These magical islands are waiting for you to discovery their beauty. Here you will see trees much older than man. Trees that have root systems deeper than the deepest philosophy.  This is untouched beauty where man has not cut down the old growth to build huts or furniture. Here you can walk among a pure and untouched forest. You can sing and enjoy all that nature has bestowed on these small magical islands.  These are the magical islands that make up The Philippine Islands.

One of the major means of transportation in The Philippines is the boat. How awesome it is that there is always someone waiting to take you to these virgin islands, if you so desire. Or better yet, rent your own small boat.  One by one, these little magical islands are being developed, but there remains a whole lot of magic out there. Even if they developed one each year, it would take over 5,000 years. Since The Philippines is surrounded by water, each of these tiny islands has its special beaches. You do not have to go to a resort to partake of paradise.  These are white sand beaches surrounded by deep blue waters. No need to wear flip flops on the beach, as the sand is thin and soft and feels so good between the toes.  Then you can put on your flip-flops and discover the interior of the island, with its magical trees and over-growth. What a delightful place to spend the day or maybe camp for a week.

Here you can hike, read a book, write, or paint…..all without distractions. There are no 5 Star Hotels with internet and all the conveniences of home. There are no resorts filled with luxuries. There will be no frantic calls from the office.  Here you can relax and unwind from the stressful life of the city. If you are ready to get away from everything and can forgo room service, electricity, and internet, marooning yourself on an uninhabited island is not without its rewards. Maybe the most important part is to make sure you have arrangements to be picked up. You might not want to make a permanent attachment to Castaway-style living.

If you are planning on spending time on any of these islands, make sure you bring whatever you might need for the time you are to be there. Don’t forget water, there will be no 7-11’s. Make a list and check it twice, there is no room for error. There is no Walmart to run into at the last-minute. If you desire lights, bring a lantern and so the list goes on. Remember to pack out whatever you pack in, you should leave no trace behind you.  So grab your passport and pack your bags–adventure is waiting on the magical deserted islands of The Philippines.

Great Texas & New Mexico BBQ

September 28, 2019 by ExploreTraveler Leave a Comment

Rudy’s “Country Store” and Bar-B-Q

There is a time when it comes to foodie travel we feel we must share the wealth of good travel easts. Nestled in the southwest of the USA is a small chain of BBQ restaurants that seems to have been able to re-create their famous BBQ within each individual restaurant. We have visited two so far and they are very good and seem consistent in food quality. I there will be those who feel no food chain should be here but we feel it’s important to cover more topics about food and to show people what we think is great.

From Texas to New Mexico this chain does a great job and we now have some new favorites.

1st the pulled pork has a unique recipe and good in a sandwich or as a stand-alone dish. 2nd and the personal favorite of John Sr is the beef brisket. The chicken, turkey, and sausages are all runner ups but did not steal the show. For some of their side dishes, we enjoyed the cream corn, beans, and corn on the cob.

Each Friday and Saturday they do prime rib and you must get in line early. The lines can be very long but the food is amazing. There can be little differences between each restaurant but for the most part, they seem to be equal.

We will continue to add more information on this chain so make sure to come back and view the new photos and videos.
