Travel Tips that could save your life is an ongoing project that will grow over time, and we hope everyone is able to enjoy themselves better while traveling since they will be better prepared. Enjoy these simple but easy to understand tips and make your next trip an adventure of a lifetime.
1. Never pass up a good toilet because the next one may be a squat only.
2. Always get cash after customs at your destination airport. Euros and USD Maybe an exception. Don’t risk breaking local customs regulations.
3. Always carry diarrhea medicine.

4. Always look up three words before you travel; thank you, yes and no.
5. Always have tissues packages on hand for the bathroom and eating use.
6. Certain medicine needs to be considered. Tylenol, Panadol and any needed prescription drugs.
7. Learn and study body language. Most expressions are international.
8. Use modern technology like Twitter to keep you updated on certain travel areas. US Department of State and the CDC have an alert service.
9. Water usage should be increased to offset times when good clean water is not available.
10. Learn some basics in English, German, Mandarin, and Russian, these languages can sometimes be used in emergencies.

11. Study the basic history of a region before going there.
12. Learn the taboos of the area you are traveling to. Remember it is their country, not yours.
13. Don’t assume the water is clean to drink just because locals drink it. They have built up immunities you don’t have.

18. Use large backpacks to travel that way you can never have to check in your bag. This will ensure you always have what you need when you need it.

20. When traveling in crowed unorganized cities try to memorize key locations or landmarks. These can be used to find your way later when needed.
21. Always look and find locals who have language skills that you can use to help gather information that is key to your trip. Young people know some English and older people could know other languages. People and questions are your best resource for information.
22. Don’t assume your cellphone will work. Print out what you need ahead of time.
23. Carry old fashion maps.

24. Get a cellphone app that can translate languages. Make sure it can work without wifi or cellphone service.
25. Buy digital offline mapping software for your mobile phone or other devices.

Exploring the spicy flavors of New Mexico
Some Like It Hot!
There is absolutely nothing like all the spicy delicacies of New Mexico! But what makes the delicacies of New Mexico different? They are unique in that most meals revolve around the humble chile. It is not Tex-Mex, Cal-Mex, or even Mexican. It is a magnificent blending of flavors revolving around chili peppers. In the above photo, you see a dish of black beans topped with tomato’s, onions, shrimp, green chile, and a squeeze of lime. Now that is yummy!
New Mexican food is a breed all it’s own? Have you ever had a cheese burger with extra real cheese, and a healthy topping of chilies? Two things are a must, good quality real cheese and chile. Is it possible to even eat without the humble vegetable called chile?
And then there are Sopapillas. Sopapillas are very versatile and can be eaten any time of the day. You make a pie crust and roll out. Cut in about 3-4 inch squares and fill with eggs. Deep fry in a quality oil. Breakfast is ready. If you want lunch or dinner, just fill with any meat and fry. Serve hot smothered with chilies. And an all time favorite anytime is to fry and just let them puff up, but no filling. Then dip in honey while hot. What could be better? They are amazing!
Is there a special occasion in your life? Let’s celebrate with Green Chile Stew. Need your favorite comfort food, most likely it will be Green Chile Stew. Whatever the need, whatever the occasion, there is Green Chile Stew. You can use any meat, just cut in cubes and flour well using Masa Harina. Then brown well. Place in a soup pot and add onions, garlic, tomatoes, potatoes, beef broth, lots of chopped green Chile peppers and spices. Generally cumin, garlic, oregano, cilantro, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt are used as spices. Put in a large stew pot and cook slowly for around 8-10 hours. You can also use a slow cooker on low, if you prefer. Most homes have Green Chile Stew made up and ready for any need. Who knows who might come to dinner, but no problem, there is Green Chile Stew.
When wandering the streets of any community in New Mexico you may come across families selling tamales, burritos, ect out of their van. Most likely those will be the best that money can buy, that is where the locals shop. So stock up and eat like a king.

If traveling on the Pacific Coast, take time to stop in several different areas and taste some of the different recipes. We are sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

A Culinary Adventure In Istanbul Turkey
Baklava With A Turkish Touch, Keşkül ~ Turkish Almond Pudding, And Şekerpare
Almost everyone knows what Baklava consists of? But have you had it with a Turkish Touch? Throughout the Middle East; the Caucasus, which is a region at the border of Asia, Europe, the Black Sea, and the Caspian Sea, and of course modern day Turkey, comes a wide variety of Baklava. Traditional Baklava by nature, is over sweet, made with walnuts and phyllo dough, and then it is soaked in honey. When you are sure there is no version that is a favorite among the many recipes, you encounter Turkish Stlye Baklava. In Turkey, you will see that pistachios are usually used instead of the traditional walnuts. There are also several other small changes made from the other recipes. The end result is amazing. This is the king of the Baklavas.
Then there is the discovery of Keşkül, an almond pudding made with milk, coconut, and pistachios. It is usually served in a special bowl with a spoon. Sprinkled on top are coconut flakes and pistachio pieces. The name, itself, has an interesting story behind it. In the time of the Ottoman Empire, this was the name of a special bowl that lodges used for begging money, so that the lodge could make this special pudding. The pudding was then served in these same bowls and given to the poor. This special desert is served in these same bowls even today.
Our next major desert is Şekerpare . It is by far the favorite among the Turkish people and is so easy to make. In a nut shell it is an almond pastry that is dipped in a a very thick lemon flavored syrup. This is simple and delicious.

There is coffee and then there is Turkish coffee. The difference is in how it is made.
The Traditional Way To Make Turkish Coffee
It is made by taking ground unfiltered fresh Turkish coffee beans and boiling them over the lowest heat till they froth. It is then served and the remainder goes back on the cooking area till it froths a second time and then another serving is made.

Travel the World Recipes ~ Hummus in Asia
Hummus in Asia
The earliest mention of Hummus dates back to Egypt during the 13th century, enjoyed today all over the world!
Hummus Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup of uncooked chickpeas (Garbanzo beans)
2 teaspoons of baking soda
4 garlic cloves, mashed and roughly chopped
2/3 cup of roasted tahini
1/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 teaspoon of Kosher salt as desired
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin ~ optional
Note ~ 2 cans of cooked chickpeas (Garbanzo beans) can replace the uncooked dry chickpeas (Garbanzo beans)
Instructions
Wash the chickpeas very well, remove damaged chickpeas or small stones.
Continue washing until the water is transparent.
Soak them in clean water over night with 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
Wash again, and soak them in tap water for a few more hours.
The chickpeas should absorb most of the water and almost double their size.
Rinse the chickpeas and add them in to a large pot.
Cover them with water and add 1 teaspoon baking soda.
Cook around 1 hour until they are very easily smashed.
Rinse the chickpeas with water once again.
Remove the peels and foam which float over the cooking water, Drain.
PREPARATION
In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, ground cumin, 1/2 cup water, and olive oil.
Process until smooth.
Add salt to taste.
Place into serving dish, stream with olive oil over the top. Enjoy!
Additional toppings:
Toasted pine nuts
Lamb
Chopped parsley
Fresh lemon juice
Paprika
Hot peppers
Serve with fresh pita bread

Travel tips to help you enjoy your Taiwan trip.
Taiwan is a unique, and wonderful place to explore, and with these simple Taiwan Travel Tips you will be well on your way to having a great adventure. With so much to see, and do we had a real hard time selecting just a few points. So it has been decided that this piece to be edited over time, and more information will be added to improve the usefulness of this small Taiwan Travel Guide. If you take the Taiwan high speed rail system from Taipei the following areas can be visited very easily. We will concentrate on these section in our introduction for now.
First of all you have to break Taiwan into several pieces from a environment standpoint or adventure standpoint. The northern area is more Chinese in nature, and speaks mandarin fluently. The food is multi-ethnic since Taipei is an international city with visitors from around the world. The north has wonderful hot springs, and a cool northern coast for some island exploration with great seafood.
The more north central areas of Hsinchu county are more windy but have influences of north Taiwan Chinese, Hakka Chinese, and aboriginal peoples who are traditionally from the area. There are great mountains with peaks that are accessible via automobile, and hiking trails. Locals and visitors alike bike along the small roads in the countryside, and enjoy the agricultural views along the way.

- Taiwan is a not a tropical island per say, and is more of a sub tropic location. So you must be prepared for the wind, cold mountains, and tropic heat in the south. Make sure to have a wind jacket if in the winter, and loose cool clothing if in the south.
“Taiwan’s Famous Stinky Tofu” Love or hate it, just gotta have it! - The food in Taiwan is great, and has a tremendous amount of unique delicacies. Stinky tofu has a really bad smell, but the taste is pretty good. So consider trying it at one of Taiwan’s famous night markets. As you travel around Taiwan please consider that the type of food will change from very traditional Chinese styles to Hakka in the Hsinchu area, and even some curry fish dishes in the south area of Tainan or Kaohsiung.
- Consider going out to one of Taiwan’s islands. We really enjoyed “Green Island” with all of its great photography, nature, site seeing, and scuba diving. The traditional life still carries on there, and everyone local who lives there is super friendly. We went in winter, and had the whole island to ourselves, and then went back again in the summer, and it was very crowed but still fun. There is a rare hot spring there that is one of the very few salt water hot springs in the world.

Xinwu Mazu Temple overlooking the Sea in Xinwu Township Taiwan - Taiwan temples, and learning the local culture can be a very enriching experience. No matter what your religion is we still recommend that you visit a few in Taipei or another location. To truly understand who the Taiwanese are and how to interact with them knowing their culture, and religious traditions can help you on your quest for adventure. You will find the religious, and temple culture unique, and very interesting.
5. The Grand Hotel in Taipei is very original, and a great opportunity to take some wonderful photographs,and while enjoying some of the best food in Taiwan. The hotel has several restaurants, and the buffett has rare delicacies from all over asia.
6. In the mountains just outside of HsinChu city Taiwan; there is a community of people from some of the aboriginal, Hakka, and others of Chinese decent. This area of HsinChu county is very rural, and has some unusual photography, market, and foodie travel opportunities. You can go here for the day or spend the night for an even better experience. We did eat in the market area, and on the hill. The food was really good, and lower cost due to the lack of tourism, and traffic.

7. Visit the aboriginal cultural centers in the south of Taiwan. These places will give you a great overview, and understanding of Taiwan’s aboriginal past. Some of these centers house multiple museums, and interaction with people who represent each tribe present in Taiwan today.
